Health The German Spitz is a relatively healthy breed but should have regularly Cerf (Eye Exams), Patella's examed/OFA, and some breeders suggest having their hips OFA/PennHipp as well.
There is no genetic testing for the eye disease at this point in time. Hopefully with the help of breeders they will be able to develop one. There are many other health tests open to all breeds that can be done to ensure healthy dogs. Registries The United Kennel Club allows registration, conformation shows, and performance events for German Spitz.
The American Kennel Club allows Foundation Stock Service filing. It also allows many FSS breeds to compete in companion events. The Canadian Kennel Club - Coming Soon N/A The IABCA allows conformation showing of German Spitz to our knowledge. Activities German Spitz are widely shown in conformation around the world and in the United States (UKC). They also make good obedience dogs, agility dogs, and rally obedience dogs. They are quite intelligent and enjoy games to do. They do have a "spitz" streak to them and games must be kept fun.
